Kompot

Hello everyone,

What if you are not in a mood for the craft cocktail Gazoz. Don’t care about trendy things? Want some old classics? How about authentic Kompot that never gets old, makes everyone lick their lips and boost your body with vitamins and your mood with endorphins!

Kompot is fruit punch that is being boiled in a way that takes out every juicy bit of fruits and emulsifies it with water. Kompot is a traditional Russian and Ukrainian drink that is being served from every daycare to every school and finishing in every home during summer. Depending on your taste buds in can be thick with fruit flavor, remind berry juice or light fruit drink. The sugar amount is minimum and the vitamin intake is maximum. There are as many recipes of kompot as housewives making it. I would like to humbly share our family recipe in which fruits give their vitamins and flavor up to the end however vitamins are still being preserved.

I have a flashback from childhood when we kept glass gallon jars in a fridge all summer long (they were actually 3 liters jars that is a 1/4 less than gallon), so when we got too hot from the summer day we would open a fridge, pour a big glass of refreshing summer fruit goodness and quaff. I still remember the satisfaction and joy that flushes you over after you finish your last drop and lick your lips. Is there anyone here from my camp? We are flooded with pre-made drinks like cold teas, cold coffees, all sorts of soda drinks, lemonades and juices that are able to satisfy sweet drinks cravings, but sometimes it’s worth to stop, restart and reach for something new (or maybe old new ) that’s worth your time and effort.

Kompot

Ingredients

  • 5 lb stone fruit (peaches, apricots, plums)
  • 1 lb berries of your choice
  • 3 pears
  • 3 apples
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Prepare your ingredients
  • Wash fruits, remove pits and cut all the fruits into big chunks.
  • When kompot starts boiling add sugar, lemon juice and take off the heat. Let cool down to room temperature. Filter through the sieve. Keep refrigerated.
